The History and Literature Department is one of the largest and most active in the UK, with teaching and research in all periods of Portuguese history and literatures. The Department runs the annual Liverpool Portuguese Festival, which is one of the largest in the country, and Liverpool Portuguese Film Festival, the oldest in the UK.
