The Doctorate of Physiotherapy (DPT) at Robert Gordon University (RGU) Aberdeen is a 3.5-year program designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills necessary to become a successful physiotherapist. Through a combination of theoretical and practical learning, you will gain an understanding of the human body, its movement and function, and the treatments used to improve physical health. You will develop your clinical reasoning skills and gain experience in managing musculoskeletal, neurological and cardiorespiratory conditions. With an emphasis on evidence-based practice, you will be equipped with the skills to confidently assess, diagnose and treat patients of all ages. Through a combination of lectures, tutorials, seminars, workshops, practical sessions and placements, you will gain the necessary qualifications to become a professional physiotherapist.
Applicants typically possess a Bachelor's undergraduate degree in a science subject, such as biological, or sports science, and should contain human anatomy and physiology with a 1st Class honours classification, or a minimum GPA of 3.6 out of 4.0 Scale, or equivalent. Those with a 2.1 honours degree or a GPA of 3.3-3.5 will be considered on an individual basis.
Experience of the research process is an essential requirement for the course. Relevant work experience in the field of Physiotherapy and healthcare would be desirable.
All international students, for whom English is not their first language, are required to have an IELTS (International English Language Testing System) score of at least 7.0 in all aspects of the test or an appropriate equivalent, on application to the course.
