Theatre MA (By Research)

The Master of Arts by Research in Theatre at the University of York is an intensive program designed to provide advanced research and analytical skills to theatre practitioners. This one-year program gives students the opportunity to develop their skills in a wide range of areas related to theatre, including research methods, critical analysis, performance theory, and dramaturgy. Students will benefit from access to the university’s vast library resources and its world-class faculty as they explore how theatre can be used as a powerful tool for social change. The program culminates with a dissertation project which allows students to pursue their own research interests and gain valuable experience working independently on a theatre-related topic. Graduates of this program are well-prepared for careers in teaching, research, or directing and will have the skills necessary to make meaningful contributions towards advancing the field of theater studies.
