The Master of Philosophy in Music at the University of York is a two-year program that combines a comprehensive introduction to music theory, composition, performance & analysis with advanced research methods and techniques. This unique program allows students to develop a deep understanding of both musical and philosophical knowledge, with courses that cover topics such as postmodern music theory, aesthetics & ethics, and world musics. Students will also have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience through practical projects and workshops. Upon completion of their studies, graduates will be well-prepared for careers in higher education or research settings as well as for PhD studies. The aim of this program is to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to make meaningful contributions in the field of music while developing meaningful connections between philosophy and music.
