History BA (Hons)

The Bachelor of Arts in History at the University of York is an engaging and comprehensive program designed to provide students with a deep understanding of historical events, processes, and ideas. This four-year degree combines traditional coursework with hands-on learning opportunities such as field trips, archaeological digs, and research projects. Students will explore topics from a variety of perspectives including political history, economic history, social history, gender studies, and cultural studies. The program also features coursework on special topics such as digital humanities or public history which are designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to work in museums or archives or pursue a career in education. Graduates from this program are well prepared for successful careers in fields such as higher education, publishing, research, media & communications, politics & public policy or cultural heritage management while also making meaningful contributions towards preserving our shared human heritage.
