Criminology and Law

In the UK the discipline of criminology and law is known as criminology. Criminology as a field of study is of historical origin. It is often considered the study of crime and the criminal justice system. It seeks to understand the causes of crime and of criminal acts, and the consequences of such acts, in order to prevent them. Criminology is defined as the scientific study of crime, and crime as the study of the causes, and effects, of crime. As a field of study, criminology is considered to be a part of the social sciences. Criminologists are considered to be social scientists and to use the scientific method. The research methodology used includes: (1) the collection of data (e.g. police statistics, and other forms of data), (2) the formulation of research questions, (3) the formulation of hypotheses, (4) the collection of data, (5) the analysis of data, (6) the integration
