Literature and Art History (including Year Abroad)

The Essex University BA (Hons) Art History and English Literature and Art History (BA) and BA (Hons) Literature and Art History degrees are highly individualised arts programs. The BA (Hons) Art History degree has specialist courses in 20th century, contemporary and inter-war art history. The BA (Hons) Literature and Art History degree provides students with an understanding of the various genres within which literature and art are produced, and the relationship between them. The BA (Hons) Literature and Art History degree is a three year program. The first year is an introduction to the history of art and culture, and includes a foundation year in English Literature and Art History. Students continue in the second year to develop their knowledge of contemporary art and its theoretical and methodological approaches. The final year is an independent project or thesis.
