The University of Dundee is a Scottish public research university located in the city of Dundee. It was founded in 1973 as part of the University of Strathclyde, and was fully independent by 1998. The University is based on the original University of St Andrews, which was founded in 1413. Dundee was originally named "St Andrews" in the 12th century, but the city changed its name to "Dundee" following a petition against the University of St Andrews in the year 1413. The University is one of the largest and most successful universities in Scotland, and has a strong reputation for research, postgraduate study, and professional and graduate education.
