This course will provide an introduction to key problems and issues in the field of Art History. Students will develop sophisticated critical, historical and aesthetic skills as a way of understanding and analysing images, objects and other cultural artefacts. The course will offer students an awareness of historical and current issues in the Arts with an emphasis on the relationship between cultural practice and the representation of culture and society. Students will also develop a wide range of skills, including critical writing, research and communication skills, and will learn to work as professional, independent scholars. The study of art and visual culture is one of the most exciting areas of research across the social sciences.
