Philosophy, Politics and Economics is a postgraduate MPhil. It is an interdisciplinary course of study that combines elements of all three core disciplines. For example, during the first term, students work on a project based on a philosophical text (e.g. Plato's 'Republic') to combine the theoretical and practical elements of the study of philosophy with the skills and knowledge of politics and economics. During the fourth term, students work on a project based on a political text (e.g. Hobbes' 'Leviathan' and Rousseau's 'The Social Contract'). Students also develop their writing skills through a research essay and a significant piece of written work. Students are encouraged to develop their knowledge of economics throughout the course.
