The STEM Foundation Year is a 4-year integrated program that includes a Foundation Year followed by a degree in biology, computer science, engineering, or geography and geology, provided you pass all assessments. The following information pertains only to the Foundation Year. Please refer to the corresponding course pages for details on the subsequent three years.
The STEM Foundation Year is designed to help you develop your scientific skills and knowledge based on your individual needs. This will prepare you for progression onto selected science-based degrees at Edge Hill University. The program equips you with the essential transferable skills required for higher education and future employment. This program is suitable if you meet the University's minimum entry criteria but do not meet the subject-specific requirements for science-based courses, or if you wish to expand your scientific knowledge base before joining a relevant degree.
During the program, you will acquire skills in academic writing, critical analysis, systematic thinking, and personal reflection. You will also receive a broad overview of applied mathematics and physics. The program has three pathways that allow you to enhance your scientific knowledge in computer programming, biology, or geography. The pathway you will study is determined by your intended degree.
Please note that this Foundation Year does not usually lead to an award or qualification on its own. However, successfully completing the Foundation Year at the required pass mark enables you to progress onto a relevant degree at Edge Hill University.
