As social creatures, our lives are deeply intertwined with the welfare of others. This degree offers you the opportunity to critically analyze current social issues and examine the historical factors that have shaped our world. You'll develop a deeper understanding of the global environment and your place within it.
Through studying differing sociological viewpoints, you'll explore fundamental questions about our society. Is it ordered or rife with conflict and inequality? You'll investigate topics such as equality, rights, liberty, social justice, and diversity, including feminist, gay, and disability rights, as well as contemporary movements such as "Black Lives Matter" and transgender activism. You'll have the freedom to select from a range of optional modules in years 2 and 3 to tailor your study.
Our innovative and creative approach to teaching sociology includes field trips throughout the UK and Europe, as well as research skill development to enhance your sociological imagination. You'll develop critical skills, and the opportunity for a work placement will make you ready for a career when you graduate.
