Chemistry is a fundamental science that studies the structure and composition of materials surrounding us. As a secondary school chemistry teacher, you can ignite your students' interest in science and reveal the answers that chemistry provides. Our one-year Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) focuses on the secondary science chemistry curriculum for learners aged 11-16. We are committed to helping you become a confident and capable chemistry teacher in the classroom.
Our experienced team will introduce you to effective teaching methods and theories, and support you with a Personal Tutor, an expert mentor, and a placement link tutor. You will gain valuable insights into lesson planning, classroom management, and teaching methods that are most effective. In addition, you will have the opportunity to apply what you have learned through practical experience. During your 26 weeks on placement, you will plan, teach, and assess chemistry lessons with the guidance of your school-based mentor.
Upon completing the PGCE Secondary Science (Chemistry) with QTS (11-16) program, you will be recommended for Qualified Teacher Status. Furthermore, our free subject knowledge enhancement course will help you improve or refresh your knowledge of chemistry, tailored to your specific needs, and better equip you to teach the conceptual and applied aspects of chemistry to learners aged 11-16 years.
