This degree program aims to understand why people engage in offending behaviors and what appropriate responses and punishments are. The program takes a psychosocial approach to answer these questions and develop your knowledge of offending at national and global levels. The curriculum is designed to analyze a range of crimes from low-level nuisance crimes to corporate crimes, crimes against humanity, and even terrorism, while exploring their impact on individuals and communities. The program also covers the wider social, economic, and political contexts of offending.
You'll study current criminal justice practices and careers in this sector, and gain work experience in year 2 to see these roles in a real-world context. Additionally, you'll explore concepts such as risk and dangerousness and learn about complex offending, such as working with mentally disordered offenders and those with addictions who offend.
