You will develop a comprehensive understanding of the role of law in society and learn key legal principles such as legal reasoning, civil liabilities, and contract law. Through contemporary case studies and critiques, you will refine your critical analysis skills and scrutinize the police, criminal courts, prisons, and youth justice services to gain a broader perspective of the legal system's impact on society.
In your final year, you will have the option to choose a specialized module from various areas of law. You will also have opportunities to visit courts such as the Old Bailey, the Supreme Court, and Parliament in London, as well as the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg and the European Parliament and European Commission in Brussels. You can also listen to guest lectures from experienced lawyers, including libel lawyer Paul Tweed, who has represented clients such as Britney Spears, Whitney Houston, and Liam Neeson.
To gain practical experience, our on-campus courtroom offers mock courtroom scenarios that allow you to apply your legal skills in a real-life setting. You can also join the student-led Law Society to connect with your peers and Edge Hill alumni.
